Sun shades for the city

Sun shades over Granada. Photograph by Tim IrvingThis is the time of year when the sun shades go up in Spanish cities. That's Granada above and the shades went up last week covering the streets and walkways of the whole city.

The sun shades have been used for about 5 years. Before then strolling around a city in the summer could be hard and hot.

These shades look good too, they add something to a walk.

  4. Oh, it's only been used the past five years, which explains why I've never seen such a thing (we were last in Spain in 1997). But it's very clever and quite attractive, really. Sort of reminds me of a Christo installation (His yellow umbrellas were here in California in the early 90's - it was really something).
