I was born in England and I've lived in Europe all my life, so I have always taken it for granted that should I get sick or have an accident I'll be cared for. I have always had the comfort of knowing my treatment would hopefully be covered by the National Health Service in the UK, or the relevant equivalent in wherever I am in Europe!

This idea of free national health isn't new. The hospital above is San Juan de Dios in Granada and it's has been freely treating the sick since c1540.

This beautiful building has renaissance style courtyards and gardens for the patients and staff to enjoy. Those are genuine tapestries, paintings and frescoes. If you are unfortunate enough to enter the hospital with an illness you can rest assured that the equipment and the treatment is of the very highest modern standard.

For a patient is must be like living in two worlds.

  1. Now this is the first hospital I have ever wanted to visit! Beautiful! And one day, maybe the US will wake up and see the importance of socialized health care!

P.S. Thanks for your etsy message - I'll get back to you soon!

  2. All hospitals should look like this ;)

I'm also fortunate that we have national healthcare in Canada.

  3. Can't really be sick. God forbid. Knock on wood. Shoo fly...I always pray for and try to be in good health. Don't have that kind of benefit.

Ha-ha. I should have said nicer things about that doctor's house you featured.
