Rastro made from doors

Rastro. Photograph by Tim IrvingRastro (secondhand shop), Granada, Spain. Built entirely using old doors. Note the roof built around the street lamp! This rastro is run entirely by women, and they re-cycle absolutely everything that is donated to them. This is the place to go when you need just one particular type of wall hook, or a cup to complete your set.

I won't list everything in stock, (as it's a secret) but I found quite a lot of large, heavy, brass letters, they were 5 euros each. They were a nice serif font, and about 15 inches high. The alphabet was missing a few characters including my initials "T" and "I" but I did get a rather nice "L"................

  1. Pick me up at the station and take me straight over there please!

I'm wild for letters and numbers, but haven't run across such large ones. In heavy brass, no less. . . grrrrrrrr, so envious. I'm a bit competitive when it comes to scouting out goodies at the yard sales, thrift stores, etc. My "picking" buddies and I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to showing off and dmiring each others' great secondhand finds. To make it worse, I'm in the process of taking a mixed media course at the college for the second time, a class heavy on repurposing, altering and assemblage, so EVERYTHING looks like something I could use in a project. . . sigh.

Anyway, love the committment the owners have to their recycling/upcycling. What a deal on those frames!
