Photo booth images are a rarity in my collection, which is a shame because they're very playful (except for passport photos). You enter the photo booth with an attitude that says "I'm paying for these photos, I'd better show how much fun I'm having". Surely even people who are reluctant to have their portrait taken must loosen up in a photo booth! The two chavs photograph above was taken when I was fourteen. The photo booth was in Woolworths in Rhyl, North Wales and I remember the day vividly including the journey, the beach and the fairground rides. It's probably the most natural photo I have of my teens and one of the very few where I wasn't wearing my cub scouts uniform. Didn't I have amazing ears!
There's a good link to photo booths art here www.photobooth.org
The second alternative is the pinhole camera, but not your everyday pinhole camera, the matchbox pinhole camera!
For the price of a roll of film and a box of matches you can make beautiful images.
The photographs on this blog were taken by me, unless otherwise noted. If you'd like to share them with friends or use them in some way, please let people know where you found them, or send me an
Oh, man! You must love that photo! It's very cool, and truly a moment in time & history.
ReplyDeleteI have a strip of photo booth photos of my mom, dad, and I all crammed inside together. It was probably at the county fair around 1970. Daddy of course had to stick out his tongue and all that stuff. And there is one in the strip where he and mom are in a passionate kiss (I think I had ducked out for that shot).
Another favorite is of two of my high school friends in the mid 70's, both musicians, who took a great photo booth shot. One of them looks like Dylan in a pair of sunglasses.
And finally, one of my dearest friends and I have a tradition of getting together on the New Year's Eve of the years we have birthdays that end in zero. We write things down and seal them up in an envelope to be opened ten years later. One year we took pictures in a photo booth at the beach and stuck that in with the letters. By the way, we are in a zero year now, and will be opening up our packet again this year. All the previous years' notes, pictures, and champagne corks are in there. We'll add more this year.
i love that photo booth pic of you..
ReplyDeletecigerettes and all, it is CLASSIC
Tim - thanks for champion the cause for film cameras. In January, I broke down to public pressure and bought a digital camera, it bores me to tears, however my trusty olympus om 1n has been a 30yr love affair. The pictures I've taken over the years are the best. None of this annoying downloading and photoshopping. I'm a firm believer in 35mm slr manual cameras. great post. Ann
