Electric and telephone calbles may soon be a rare site around europe as the local councils now put cables underground. I used to think the cables were ugly, now I've changed my mind. The cables do look untidy and can make your house look shabby but I'm begining to see the beauty in them.

I can see the beauty in them too. If I had a pristine building, I wouldn't choose to allow cables on them, but in an older town or small city setting, they do add a patina of their own as paint and age make them part of the overall landscape. Of course in your photo the cables are very desirable! It wouldn't be nearly as interesting otherwise.
