Today is a sad day for film users like me. Kodak announced it would no longer be making Kodachrome. I'm not going to write an obituary for film, there's plenty of alternatives to Kodachrome, but I thought its passing should be mentioned here.
Kodachrome is a legendary and iconic product of the 20th century. Paul Simon wrote a song about it, how many products share that honour?
I haven't used Kodachrome since a trip to Bangkok in 2006. The image of the monk in the temple above is from that roll of film.
Kodachrome was a difficult slow film to use. You had to send it away in a pre-paid envelope, then put it out of your mind. After a few weeks, when you'd forgotten about it, the cardboard mounted slides would drop through the letter box and you could re-live your vacation. You needed patience to use Kodachrome, but I will miss having the choice of using it!
