Marley & Lockyer Giveaway

I think it's true that most self representing artists spend more time promoting their work than actually creating art. I certainly spend a lot of time writing emails to various websites and blogs in the hope that I'll get a mention and a chance to display my work. It's ironic, I spent seven years in various art schools and no one ever mentioned marketing!

Marketing is probably the most difficult aspect of the job. Finding places on the internet to show my work is almost a full time job. Just think how many websites and blogs there are in the world, millions right! Out of those millions, how many would display art? Well it's a handful, a few thousand, and of that handful there are just a few where my style of photographs fit in.

On one hand, the internet has opened up so many avenues that were never there for artists maybe a decade ago - on the other hand, the competition is fierce now!

So I'm thrilled to announce that Ness Lockyer, of Marley and Lockyer is featuring my photographs everyday this week. And, on Friday will be giving away two of my prints. Ness is a 'lover of all things white, French, beautiful and a Home' - something I relate to very well!

A room somewhere - Great photography

I'm always looking at, and searching for, photographs that have been curated ie, chosen for display for a particular reason. I'm not a great fan of flickr because you have to wade through hundreds of images to see something that interests you. Photography web sites are a paradox in that you don't find many photographs but lots of cameras.

Blogs are a great source for new photography, and a few blogs stand out. "A room somewhere" is a blog I'm looking at daily. The blog features excellent product and art photographs, sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

The photograph above is the Groenhoven Estate in Belgium by Remodelista. Featured in 'A room somewhere'. I love the lush greens in this photograph and the even light, it reminds me of Wales, where I'll be in a couple of weeks.
