The end of summer

My Spanish friend who is a teacher is preparing to return to work next Monday, after a summer holiday lasting three months. Yes, that's correct THREE MONTHS HOLIDAY. In fact they have a saying here, "There are three reasons to be a teacher, June, July and August". Of course not everyone gets or takes three months, only teachers, students and related professions.

The rest of the population will take 2-4 weeks holiday and 99% choose August, the hottest month. In the cities, offices, shops, bars and restaurants close. Everyone heads for the beaches, it's guaranteed.

Personally, I can' t wait to get back to normal, I enjoy the cities when they are buzzing with people and I prefer the beaches when they are empty. But I've also taken advantage of the empty art galleries to see some excellent exhibitions in peace and quiet, bliss.
