I photographed a nice piece of graffiti yesterday in Granada. You may wonder what makes it nice. Well whoever created the stencil knew a thing or two about design. That camera is very special, it's a Braun Nizo, designed by Dieter Rams. Dieter Rams is one of the great designers of the past 50 years and the man who created the 10 commandments for design. I think this qualifies it as intelligent graffiti.
I also like this old spotty piece, again in Granada. I've used it as a background many times since I found it several years ago. Sadly each time I visit this wall there are a few dots missing. I should complain about that. But I can't mention street art without a mention of Ernest Pignon-Ernest and the walls of Naples. This guy is the high priest of graffiti. He paints without permission and beautifies the streets. If you ever go to Naples, take some time to see these paintings they're well worth the visit.

The photographs on this blog were taken by me, unless otherwise noted. If you'd like to share them with friends or use them in some way, please let people know where you found them, or send me an
these were all very fine !
ReplyDeletei say its street art..love, love the camera
ReplyDeletevery clever!
Great shots!! I'm also a huge fan of Ernest Pignon-Ernest... Your first photo reminds me Alexandre Orion's amazing work!! I discovered him in Art Gallery in Bath... and posted on his creations recently.
ReplyDeleteLeave it to you to show me the only graffiti I've ever liked. Very cool, all of it. I think you should go out on a nocturnal mission to put more spots back on that wall. It would be fun to see the pics where you've used the dots as a background. (Went to the "10 commandments of design" link; did you see that pocket turntable Rams designed in 1959?)
